A stunning example of a silver brooch from the master of early 20th century design.
This classic bow brooch comes from the catalogues of Theodor Fahrner (1859-1919), a one time steel engraver who discovered a talent and passion for jewellery design running from the art nouveau to art deco periods. This classic early 20th design is both simple and stylish, showing a wide bow with swept wing design and elegant leaf style curves. What sets Fahrner’s pieces aside is the detail patterning and machine craft. In this example a series of organic lines sweeps across each wing of the bow, accented with marcasites. At the centre is a 3 bar “knot” in baguette cut marcasites.
It is fully marked “Original Fahrner” to the rear and 925 for the grade of silver.
This beautiful brooch shows some signs of age but nothing detrimental. One or two minor dents to the rear but the marcasites are all present and the roll over safety clasp is in full working order.
