A quality boxed set of glasses from the Moser company glassworks.

Few names stand out in the world of glass quite as prominently as Moser; originally one of Europe’s premier glass designers and known for his intricate enamelling, Moser went on to found one of the largest glass making brands of central Europe. This set of glasses bears little resemblance to the original late 19th century designs but carries the company name with quality and style. The glasses are a take on coupé glasses (apocryphally known for their resemblance to a part of Marie Antoinette’s anatomy) but given a modernist twist with straight lines and a more geometric shape which dates them to perhaps the 1950s or 60s. They would also serve well as sundae glasses.

They retain the deep bowls and narrow stems on a wide foot. The bowls having a scalloped lower edge with elegant ridges leading to a faceted “thistle” style knop and fluted stem. Four of the six glasses retain their original sticker (the other two presumably the only two to have been used) but all six have an etched mark – “Mosers – Made in Czechoslovakia” to the underside of the foot. The glasses come in their original retail box containing stays and wrap-around protection for the glasses.

The glasses themselves are in excellent, and very useable condition, the glass is intact and of very good quality. The box has perhaps seen better days as it has been taped at the edges and is scuffed and worn but is presented here as an integral part of the piece.
