A little touch of Haute Couture with this necklace from Grossé.
The Grossé company has well over 100 years of jewellery design and production under its belt, surviving two world wars, political and economic upheaval and trends which came, went and (in some cases) came back again. One of the signature periods of Grossé’s production was a long standing contract with Christian Dior; designing, producing and being concurrently allowed to sell under their own name as part of Dior’s Bijou range.
This necklace has all the style and elegance associated with this partnership and references to both Grossé’s early art deco influence and ongoing fashion. It has a distinctly art deco feel with its squared, domed “pendant” set with stunning crystals and enamel, pentagonal collars again set with crystals and a snake chain. This chain is fixed under the collars so the pendant is always at the centre of the piece. It is tightly constructed so though flexible it stays flat against the skin.
The necklace is designed similarly to a snake collar so it is fairly short, designed to sit high; on the neck rather than down in the décolletage. The clasp is a fold-over safety clasp and signed Grossé. Date wise this is probably later – towards the 80s, but a stunning recognition of the long-standing history of this premier fashion brand.
Fabulous vintage condition, all crystals bright and sparkly, and the metal (probably gold plated) in near new condition
